Okuma Gear Review

Matthew Hawkins

Hi everyone, it's Matt from Fishing Guys! I'm here along with Ryan and Geoff to review two rods and two reels from Okuma Fishing for you.

Let's start with the first rod and reel combination we put together, the Komodo 350 low profile reel, with the T-40X 1032 MEDIUM HEAVY action salmon and steelhead rod.  This is a wicked combo that will handle absolutely everything you can throw at it.

The Komodo reel has a massive 25 pounds of drag pressure from its multi disc carbonite drag system, sure to stop any spring salmon or steelhead from swimming back to the Pacific Ocean. With stainless steel gearing, diecast aluminum frame, it is built to last.  Worried about birdsnests?  Fine tune the 7 position velocity control system and it's a thing of the past.  All 11 stainless steel ball bearings make this reel silky smooth and a pleasure to fish. It's got 31" of line retrieval per crank to get you back into the drift.

Now for the 1032 rod, how sexy are the woven carbon grips on this rod?!? They are awesome in hand while decreasing the overall weight of the rod. With a total of 11 guides plus the tip, there's no cheating the system here.  This is one tough rod while still having incredible sensitivity in the tip.

Ok, now onto the next combination, the Helios Air low profile reel and the T-40X 1092 MEDIUM LIGHT action salmon and steelhead rod. This my friends, is all about light weight, let's discuss!!

The Helios Air reel weighs only 5.7 ounces, that's it!!  You can barely feel it in your hand it's so light thanks to magnesium frame and sideplates.  While still packing 14 pounds of drag pressure, it can gather over 13" of line per crank, making this an insanely fast fishing setup.  It's perfect for the smaller salmon like coho, pink, sockeye, and smaller steelhead.  It's spool held 130 yards of 30 pound Sufix 832 braided line, plenty for these sizes of fish. Again, fine tune the velocity control system and you'll never be pulling out a birdsnest again.

Looking for some reach, try this 1092 rod with a length of 10'-9"!! Have you ever seen a split grip on a salmon rod? Now you have, and you should feel how light it makes this rod.  12 guides plus the tip, this rod excels above others in it's class making it one of my favourites.

These rods and reels have made Fishing Guys believers in Okuma's quality, performance, and service.  Both reels are backed by a three year warrantee and rods have a limited lifetime warrantee.  Visit Okuma Fishing dot com to check out their products, you won't be disappointed!!
